DPS: Interview writing

She’s the latest mega star to come out of the UK and has already scored a number one hit with ‘Don’t be’ which followed her 2014 hit ‘unforgettable’. Lacey Dixon talks to Poparazzi.

How did you get started in this industry?
My story is slightly different to other artists. I used to sing to myself when I was either home alone (which was quite often) or when I was taking a shower. I didn’t feel comfortable singing in front of others including my family because I had very low esteem. Then one day, when I was in secondary school, we had to perform a song in music class, we were put into groups and we had to have a lead singer so unfortunately my peer group chose me to be the singer. At first I was so nervous but I finally gave in at the very end and began singing and everyone including my teacher said that I had a gift. I didn’t believe them at first until my teacher offered me singing lessons. From then on singing became my passion; I began singing at shopping centres, weddings, parties and so many more functions until I got discovered. So really, I have my school to thank for everything.

That’s amazing! So how is fame treating you?
Oh, it has been AMAZING! Couldn’t have asked for anything better, I have this amazing fan group who always support me on twitter, I love them unconditionally. I can’t thank them enough. Unfortunately there are also the haters. Haters get to me but I am getting used to them; they make me stronger and people will hate so I can’t change their minds about me. Fame can be quite stressful - it’s not always easy but I love it and wouldn’t want to trade it for anything else.

Who do you want to work with in the future?
There are so many, I would love to work with Katy Perry, I would love to work with Lady Gaga, I would love to work with Jessie J and I would love to work with Rihanna. (All the amazing ladies...!)

Do you write all of your songs?
Yes I do, they all mean something special to me. I have a songbook and I keep it as a diary - if I have something good to say I write it down and it all eventually turns into a song. I produce the music by playing on my keyboard for a good 12 hours or so until I get a good rhythm to go with my lyrics.
What has been the most memorable moment of the start of your career so far?
The moment I was told I had one million views of my video for ‘Unforgettable’ online was unforgettable! I cried A LOT; I couldn’t ask for a more loyal fanbase. I will keep working hard to make my fans proud because I’m thankful for them.

When are you planning on releasing your next single?
Very soon, there is so much more to come from me. These next few months are going to be wildly crazy... I’m going to be releasing many songs for my first album ever ‘Louder’. Keep an eye out and wait for the next few announcements.

Do you have any social sites to keep up to date with your announcements?
Yes I do, my twitter is @laceydixon and my facebook page is /officiallaceydixon. I use these on daily basis and I also try my best to reply to fans.

It was nice talking to you Lacey, we wish you the best of luck for the future.

Thank you for having me, it was lovely talking to you too.
