My final contents page

This is my final contents page, I added another graphic, pink box below the page numbers to take up some more space. It talks about the One Direction competition which was also mentioned on the front cover. Overall, I think it turned out pretty well but I still don't like how I just squashed all the social sites into the slim, pink box but other than that it turned out well. The colour theme and text links with the front cover, I also added the magazine name at the left top corner.

Changes to my contents page

During today’s lesson my teacher had asked me to make a few changes to my Pop magazine to fill up the empty spaces. I made the masthead smaller as it was far to big and it wasn’t necessary especially since it’s just the contents page. I moved the images up, closer to the masthead with an image next to it. I changed the long, pink rectangle to a square below the images and made the box of page numbers wider. To take up the space in the box I decided to added smaller text below each subheadings and added more page numbers to take up some space. Also the pink box also needs to be fixed, I will need to try and change the Facebook address around since I can’t fit it onto one line so it looks slightly weird. I’ve also been using the ruler to line up my text since many off them were not straight and it looked too messy.

For the editors note I added a signature instead since most editors use that instead so I tried to create my own signature and scanned it but it didn’t work out very well so I went onto dafont and had looked for a font with a signature kind of style. I had finally found one under the handwritten fonts, it makes my editors note more professional and realistic.

In the box of page numbers I will need to add more or something else to fill up the space, Pop magazines don’t usually have many pages above 80 so I don’t want to go above the limit or I could add an image or a graphic to take up the space.

Contents page: Overview

At the top left corner I added the cover page masthead so it would link to the contents page. Beside the huge image of my model I added an editors letter I spoke about what this issue includes and tried to make it seem like there is a lot to expect in this issue and making the issue seem big. The numbers placed on the images, I included a square from Powerpoint and added it to the contents page and placed it behind the number and lowered the opacity to 70% so it was see through.

In the pink rectangle I added social networking sites, Facebook, Twitter and their website. I also talked about how many followers/likes they have in small beneath them to make it seem slightly more realistic. Under the pink rectangle, I added a circle and used it as a bleed with the page number on it.

Above the rectangle, the small box has the page numbers, here I decided to use pink and purple, the page number is big and stands out whereas the description is small and I tried to minimise the number of words to atleast five and below.

Contents page: Text

I used the same text on my cover page for my contents page, I used the text on Photoshop "Euphemia" I didn't use this throughout my cover page, I used it for the pull quote and the competition announcement but other than that I used the font from a site called 'dafont'. Whereas for my contents page I used the font from Photoshop as I was going to be using a lot of writing on this page compared to front cover so it would have been hard to use the whole text from 'dafont' and it would not have been as clear as I also wrote a paragraph as an editor. For the masthead I used the font that I had used throughout my contents on 'dafont' as it was simple, clear and bold rather than using the font I had used for the masthead on cover page as it didn't look attractive enough and it was used specifically for the front cover masthead. Also for the page numbers I used the same font as the masthead (walkway on dafont) as it was bold. For the pull quote I used the same font style but made it bold and italic so it would stand out as they are the main articles/gossip of the magazine. In the small box with the page numbers, I made the font size 11 as they had to be small like any other contents page. The pull quotes were slightly bigger, the pull quote for page 52 was a size 24 whereas the others were a size 18. The text at the bottom of the page for the social network sites were sizes 11.

Contents page: Color choices

I used the same colour scheme as my front cover so this is a major link between the front cover and contents page. I used pink, purple, black and white, I tried to use pink and purple quite a lot like I did with my front cover so it would be similar. The images I took of my dominating model wore pink and had pink balloons this emphasises the theme colour and it gives the contents page a girly feel. The masthead is black whereas the cover page masthead is pink, I used black instead because it looked much better and it didn't seem unprofessional whereas pink didn't look right and it seemed like the colour pink was more dominant than purple. I used purple to highlight the page numbers on the images to direct the readers to the page.

Contents page: Images for my magazine

For my dominating model I'm going to use this model, I came up with the idea of her having a fear of balloons (which she actually did have a fear of). I was planning on using the second image as this would fit perfectly with the idea but my model said she did not like the image at all. So I decided to change the wordings to "I was afraid of balloons" and I will be using the first image to show that she had fought her fears. I also brought in my dress for my model since she didn't own any, and I brought in a pink one because it seemed girly and it matched the theme colour of my magazine and so did the balloons so they all tie in very well. Her hair was also wavy/curly which is currently in style amongst most teenage girls.

For my second image my model is holding a mic I added this in to make it seem musical and it's a music magazine so it needed a touch of a musical prop. I had her hold it close to her mouth to make it seem like she is singing and enjoying her life as a Pop artist. Then I will add a quote saying "I hated singing" this will contrast with the image and will make the reader want to read more as an artists won't usually say this. I will be using the first image as she is making eye contact with the audience and it looks like she is actually singing with her mouth opened whereas the second image she is just smiling and has her mic close to her mic and it doesn't seem right. The last image of her posing with her arm doesn't look right either it looks quite odd.

Finally for the the image I asked my artist to hold her finger against her lips so it seems like she's hiding a secret, this goes with my feature on artists revealing their top secrets. In this image her clothing didn't matter as much as I mainly was focusing on her facial expression as I will only cut out her face for my contents page. I tried to make sure there was enough light on her face to show her expression, she's not smiling in these images so it subvert the idea of a Pop image. I will be using the second image as it seems more mysterious and it fits perfectly with the idea. The first image you can see a slight smirk on her face, it doesn't fit in with the idea so I won't be using that neither will I use the last one because it seems blurry.

Contents page: layout

I started off my layout by using squares and rectangles from Microsoft PowerPoint and placing them around my sheet to see where they would  fit, I tried to make it similar to ‘We Love Pop’ magazine cover.

I changed the colours to pink and purple so it would fit my theme colour. But it still didn't seem right so instead I used a cheat by using triangles and rectangles to do the boarder. And I tried to match it to the magazine cover and it finally looked right after a couple of tries.

As you can see I've also added other squares onto my page, this is to outline where I will be placing my image and text for the contents page. The huge square will be an image of a model who will be dominating my page, whereas the other three small squares will be images of other artists. The rectangular shape at the bottom left corner will be the contents page numbers so it won't be taking up much space like other magazines. Pop magazines usually use more images than text on contents page to make it seem more creative and eye catching, most teenagers may prefer to look at images rather than read. Yet again according to my survey and focus group, my audience would prefer to see a variety of text and images and the feature they're interested in is images, so I will have to produce good images. I will need four different models but one image will be the same model as my cover page and I already have an image from before so I'll need to find three models for my contents and one of the three will be dominating the page instead of the model I used for my cover.
